National Student Day

Thursday, October 3

The 49er Shops Bookstore is once again hosting National Student Day (NSD)! The celebration will be held in front of the Bookstore from 11am to 2pm on Thursday, October 3rd. 

The activities planned include prizes and raffles, along with visiting Non-profit organizations and CSULB organizations focused on community service and social change.
 

NSD is a day dedicated to recognizing and celebrating student social responsibility and volunteerism. At the 49er Shops, we think this is a great opportunity to support our students and highlight those that are making a difference!

If you are a student who volunteers, visit the National Student Day webpage to submit your story! The three most popular stories of student volunteerism will win scholarships of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000. Additionally, 12 stories will be selected at random to win iPad minis!

The CSULB Department of Film and Electronic Arts presents "1912-2013: 101 Years of Michelangelo Antonioni" at the Anatol Center. 

Take an in-depth look at the work of one of the most important directors of modern cinema - Michelangelo Antonioni. Film scholars will be discussing the many factors of Antonioni’s creative output, from his choice of music to his use of color. The conference will conclude with a screening of Antonioni’s recently restored masterpiece La notte (1961).

John and Jon Town Hall 
The next Town Hall meeting with the ASI President, John Haberstroh, and ASI VP, Jonathan Bolin, will be Tuesday, October 1st at 2pm in the Nugget. Come by to hear ASI updates and share your questions and concerns! These meetings are held every 1st Tuesday and 3rd Wednesday of the month, to provide students an opportunity to voice their opinions. 

Study Abroad - Application Deadlines

For students wanting to travel abroad for the spring semester, your deadline is approaching! The last day to turn in an application for the Spring 2014 semester is Oct 1, 2013. If you are looking to study abroad for the Fall 2014 semester, applications can be turned in between Oct 1, 2013 and April 1, 2014.

Passport Services
In order to study abroad you may need a new passport! The U.S. Passport Application Acceptance Office at CSULB is located in the Career Development Center - Brotman Hall 250. The provide on-site photo service and walk-ins are welcome. You can make an appointment or learn more by visiting their website or calling (562) 985-7790.

A few job fairs are coming to campus this fall! These events are a great opportunity for students to meet with a large number of employers who are specifically seeking CSULB students to hire.

Companies may have entry-level (or higher) career openings, part-time positions and/or paid and volunteer internships.

• Develop and maintain relationships with people who are a positive influence on your life.
• Set aside time to do activities you enjoy.
• Be kind to yourself. Get enough rest, be active, and eat well.
• If you are feeling overwhelmed with tasks, ask for help.
