The SHPE is ready to fly!
The Society of Hispanic
Professional Engineers is participating in the Red Bull Flugtag event Sept 21!
Some of our very own 49ers will be flying at the
highly-anticipated aerial event, known as Red Bull Flugtag! The Society of
Hispanic Professional Engineers (SPHE) will show off their innovative design
alongside 31 other flugtag teams in Long Beach on September 21, 2013.
The event will take place starting at 10am (first
flight at noon) at Rainbow Harbor in downtown Long Beach. For a map or

The SPHE group was one of 120 teams chosen from
over 1000 applicants in the United States. This is the second time SHPE has
participated in Red Bull Flugtag, and this time around the team wanted to
expose the audience to an important piece of Hispanic culture. They chose an important
Latin American holiday for the theme – Dia de los Muertos – which focuses on
the gathering of family and friends to pray and remember those who have passed
away.
In reference to the holiday, the team created the
theme “Viaje de los Muertos,” (translated as “Flight of the Dead”) and built a
magnificent Phoenix, a symbol of "life after death.” The SHPE team has
created a beautiful video and poster to emphasize the theme, which have both
one 1st place in the creativity portion of the contest. You can

the popularity portion of the competition!

KC: Kalien Clark, it doesn’t mean anything because it was made up by my wonderful mother. (it doesn’t even exists in the urban dictionary).
