Safety Break

Don’t Risk Your Safety at Work

Safety issues are an important topic in today's workplace, especially with the rise in accidents in places of work and business. Accidents may often be small, but they can also lead to life-altering results. Below are a few safety reminders as we start the New Year.

1. Never take risks when it comes to your safety. No job is so important that it should risk your safety!

2. Learn where fire extinguishers and first aid kits are located. Learn how to operate safety devices.

3. Always perform your assigned task in a safe and proper manner; do not take shortcuts and do not rush! The taking of shortcuts and the ignoring of established safety rules is a leading cause of employee injury.

4. Read and obey safety signs and tags. Pay attention to heat warnings on labels in the dining hall. Be aware of ladder safety precautions in the bookstore.

5. Appropriate clothing and footwear must be worn on the job at all times. Be aware of whether you need to wear closed toed shoes, hair nets, gloves, or any other specific materials for your job.

6. Report any observed unsafe condition to your supervisor or Human Resources.

7. You should not perform any task unless you are trained to do so and are aware of the hazards associated with the task.

8. Never remove or by-pass safety devises.

9. Maintain a general condition of good housekeeping in all work areas at all times. A cluttered workspace causes safety hazards to go unnoticed.

10. Safety is everyone’s responsibility. That includes you!
