The inside track for Shops employees

Commencement Success
Thank you to everyone who worked Commencement activities! Over 9,000 students crossed the stage and over 95,000 people were here on campus throughout the three days of graduation festivities. Congratulations to the Class of 2012, especially our 80+ student employees that shook President Alexander’s hand!

Coca-Cola talks Sustainability
Last month, several members from Coca-Cola were invited to a Green Team meeting to share their company’s sustainability efforts.  Jeff Sigmen, West Region VP, led a presentation about their theme for all green efforts—Live Positively. The mission of this campaign is to, “Refresh the world, inspire moments of optimism and happiness, create value, and make a difference.” From this they shared seven avenues: Beverage Benefits, Active & Healthy Lifestyle, Community, Energy & Climate, Sustainable Packaging, and Water Stewardship. For more information on Coca-Cola’s visit, email Marlon.Deleon@csulb.edu.

Green Team welcomes US Foods
The next corporate sponsor in the Green Team’s Sustainability Workshop Series is US Foods, scheduled to present in early June. For more information on this and general Green Team inquiries, please contact Cyndi Farrington (Green Team Secretary, Warehouse/ID Card Services Manager) at Cyndi.Farrington@csulb.edu.

For everyone at The Beach...

Pen recycling
Did you know that recycling pens can earn the CSULB money? The TerraCycle Writing Instrument Brigade has two collection boxes in the University Bookstore (Frontline registers and by ID Card Services). In April, nearly 40 pounds of pens were picked from all over campus, earning $50 for future sustainability-related projects. Want to learn more about TerraCycle? Click here.

CSULB hosts Special Olympics
June 9-10, CSULB will be the host for the Special Olympics Southern California Games. For the 14th year in a row, The Beach welcomes over 1,000 athletes along with their coaches and cheering sections. Want to learn more or even volunteer at the event?
